Just got in this morning from Nashville, TN and found Bike Monkey #8 in the mail pile. Bike Monkey is a hand-crafted bicycle magazine published out of Santa Rosa, CA. It’s fresh and unique, right down to it’s compact size. We did an interview over the winter with contributing writer Kevin Scott. After pulling together info from the two of us, in addition to past TCCs, Kevin put together a witty and insightful look into what life on the road entails.
View of the Mississippi River from an airplane. We were on our way to Colorado from Tennessee for the CO MTB Summit.
Trying to tell people we were building trails in Conway, South Carolina was like trying to convince everyone that there is mountain biking on the moon. For those who don’t remember their Eastern U.S. geography, Conway is very close to Myrtle Beach, hundreds of golf courses, and the Atlantic Ocean. Even we didn’t know what to expect, but we reviewed our sandy trailbuilding techniques and rolled into town with a very open mind.
We spent the week in South Carolina. We checked out the trails at FATS in anticipation of the IMBA World Summit. We then traveled to Conway to work with Coastal Carolina University in Waccamaw National Wildlife Refuge.
If it’s Friday, it must be field work. Today we spent the day flagging trail in Waccamaw National Widlife Refuge. We’re very near the east coast and, as you can imagine, the soil is very sandy. Here, Chris is testing the soil a bit to see how well it holds together.
Calling all Colorado Mountain Bikers! The Colorado Mountain Bike Summit is just about a week away. Join us next weekend as we gather to discuss a variety of interesting topics. It will be an awesome weekend, something you don’t want to miss.
Did a little exploring in downtown Augusta this evening. We found some great restaurants, cafes, and this great mural. It’s all a nice compliment to the boat load of trails in the area.
Took a spin on the Augusta Canal trail this afternoon. We haven’t had the ‘cross bikes out in awhile and we’re waiting for FATS to dry out. The trail (old tow path) is very scenic – it parallels the Savannah River for 7 miles.
We teamed up with the Southern Off-Road Bicycling Association this past weekend in western North Carolina for some trailbuilding fun. As the largest mountain bike advocacy organization in the southeastern US, SORBA works with over 4,000 members. It was awesome to meet all of the different clubs who share a strong passion for trails.
We started the week in a couple of up and coming mountain bike destinations (Northern Alabama and Chattanooga, TN) and wrapped it up in a well known mecca (Tsali – North Carolina). Our streak of rain and snow continued. Don’t know if it’s good or bad, but we’re getting used to it…
