Adventure Travel Planning 101

This page is dedicated to our nieces and nephews, nine people whom we love very much.  We hope to someday share our passion for adventure with each of them as a way to give back the joy and love they give to us.  It is our belief that seeing the world can change your life.

So you want to go on an adventure vacation, huh?

Riding elephants and cooking classes in Thailand?  Self-supported bicycle tour of the White Rim in Canyonlands?  Pack trip in the backcountry of Alaska?  Photography, surfing, paddling, the list goes on and on.  Whatever you decide, keep this in mind: think about something a little beyond your comfort level.

1. Get Started:

The BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal) – define it, write it down, throw it out there.  If it sticks, proceed to #2.

2. Planning:

Destination and route: where are you going?

Logistics – main mode of transport (walk, ride, paddle), connect the dots (getting to/from airport, shuttles…)

Time – what time of year, duration of the trip

Budget – determine how much money you have to spend.  Think about food, lodging, transportation, visas, equipment, entrance fees, tips, etc.

Fitness – this kind of travel usually requires some level of fitness.  Are you in shape now or do you need to train?

3. Prepare for the Trip:
