Lost in Transition

Lost in Transition

It’s been a couple of months since we wrapped up the 2nd ‘once in a lifetime’ adventure. I’ve read that some people have a big downer after they realize the goal of a lifetime. I can see how that’s possible, but I refuse to fall into a funk because I may not know what to do with the rest of my life.

It’s been a few days since the first US Pro Cycling Challenge concluded and I’m still in awe. I always thought attending my first professional bike race would be chasing that yellow jersey across France, but I should now feel lucky that it happened in my home state. I’m a Colorado girl after all…

Finding Jens Voigt

Finding Jens Voigt

One of the most interesting aspects to the stage, and for professional road racing, was the accessibility of the team vehicles, the riders, and their bicycles. This doesn’t happen in most of the professional sports we’re used to watching in the US. Many of the spectators were forgoing their primo viewing spots for a chance to get autographs and covet the most expensive bikes you’ve ever seen. The user-friendliness of the event also very much encouraging stalking. You can bet Chris and I joined right in. It was all about finding (stalking?) Jens Voigt.

This weekend I’ll tackle a mountain bike event of a different nature, the Leadville 100 ultra endurance race. I’m anticipating it will be as equally tiring as Crankworx but in a different way. Bottom line – I’ll be busier than a one-armed paper hanger. At least the course is a 50 mile out and back and I’ll be able to capture the action and emotion in both directions.

The Secret to Living Happily on the Road Is…

The Secret to Living Happily on the Road Is…

For the last four years we’ve lived out of bags. Don’t get me wrong, it hasn’t been a bad situation at all. In fact, it was part of a wonderful live changing experience in which our bags served us well. As we settle into the next part of our life, I had a moment to look back on things that kept us happy while traveling.

What’s Next?

What’s Next?

Fresh off our two year stint on the Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew, we decided one day of retirement was good enough. We postponed our move into an actual dwelling (see the progression – bicycle, car, structure with walls and a door…) and instead hopped a plane to West Virginia.

Late last spring we traveled way up north to work in Portland, Maine with local mountain bike club on our Trail Care Crew tour. While we were there I shot some images for an article featuring the riding in this hip town in the southern part of the state. The article was recently published on Bicycling.com

Going the Distance

Going the Distance

No matter what we did all weekend, we always seemed to have a lot of fun. As one of the key ingredients to building great trail communities, RAT is already wise beyond their years. Our visit was nicely wrapped inside the inaugural, and certain to be legendary, RAT-fest. Festivities included bike demos, live music and auction, kid’s clinic, and group rides. This is just the kind of fun thatt RAT can use to bring new people into the fold, build relationships, and create future leaders.

Views from the Upper Deck

Views from the Upper Deck

With only two visits to go we achieved another milestone in our Trail Care Crew travels – the highest visit. At 10,200 feet, Leadville Colorado is in the heart of the Rockies and home to the Cloud City Wheelers.

With My Own Two Wheels: The Movie

With My Own Two Wheels: The Movie

The Mountain Film Festival in Telluride, CO starts this week and we’re psyched because there are a few bicycle movies in the line-up. One in particular, With My Own Two Wheels, has a personal connection from our travels on the Trail Care Crew. We were fortunate to meet the producer/co-director of the film, Jacob Seigel-Boettner, during our visit to Santa Barbara, CA in March.
