This weekend I’ll tackle a mountain bike event of a different nature, the Leadville 100 ultra endurance race. I’m anticipating it will be as equally tiring as Crankworx but in a different way. Bottom line – I’ll be busier than a one-armed paper hanger. At least the course is a 50 mile out and back and I’ll be able to capture the action and emotion in both directions.

The Wide Eyed World was featured on MountainBike.com this week after spending last weekend shooting at Crankworx Colorado. The festival took place at Winter Park Ski Area and featured a full compliment of freeride mountain bike events. Leslie was on hand for all of the events and got a front row seat for all of the action.

It’s On! 2011 Teva Mountain Games

If you’re wondering what to do this weekend, you should get yourself to the Vail Valley and check out the 2011 Teva Mountain Games. It’s all about adventure in the outdoors. Originally started as a kayak event, the Games have expanded to include other events like mountain biking, fly-fishing, and that new fangled water sport, stand-up paddle boarding.

Cure for the Chronic Over-Packer

Cure for the Chronic Over-Packer

Up until a few months ago I hadn’t really found the optimal way to carry my camera gear. It usually got shoved into a pack or shoulder bag. For me I just need to have things easily accessible and ready to shoot. Unexpectedly (but fortunately), I got connected with Colby Brown, a professional photographer that works with F-Stop, an outfit that makes really great (and highly functional) adventure camera packs and bags. It wasn’t too long before I had the Loka pack waiting for me on the front doorstep.

I’ve had Salvagetti Bicycle Workshop and the Happy Coffee Co on my radar for awhile and it was finally time to head downtown and check it out. There’s nothing like the wonderful smell of coffee intermingling with bike lube…

Before we began our work with IMBA, I was in the midst of establishing my freelance career. I did a little of this and a little of that, including writing a bit for a local Colorado magazine, There and Back. Luckily, I also found that they enjoyed my photography. To make a long story short, I got one of my images printed on the back of a downtown Denver pedicab.
